Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), emphasized that the third most important food product in the world, the potato is regularly consumed by billions of people. Potato cultivation produces less greenhouse gas emissions than other large crops, while also providing income to small producers.
General Director Qu Dongyu; He said that by focusing on increasing yields and making full use of historic potato growing areas, global production could be increased to 500 million tons in 2025 and 750 million tons in 2030.

Qu Dongyu also noted that Asia and Africa are regions with rapid growth in potato production, while production has decreased in Europe and North America.
