The Dutch Food Safety Authority (NVWA) announced that two more tomato producer companies operating in the Noordoostpolder and Westvoorne regions of the Netherlands have detected the tomato brown wrinkle fruit virus (ToBRFV ).

According to official records, 23 tomato producing companies that produce in a greenhouse area of approximately 436.8 hectares have been affected by the contamination, and 5 new companies producing in a greenhouse area of 25.7 hectares have been added to these. Efforts to prevent contagion were unsuccessful in 8 locations, and the virus was found again in these replanted areas.

The Dutch Food Safety Authority (NVWA), stating that producers experience product loss between 5 % and 30% due to contamination, has announced that they estimate an expenditure of 5-10 thousand € per hectare to clean their greenhouses and grow new crops in order to avoid contamination.
