Hazera has launched new varieties that achieve an optimal balance between protection and performance and are moderately resistant to the highly contagious tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) that is affecting growers worldwide.
ToBRFV is transmitted through soil, tools, water and human contact, significantly reducing yield and affecting fruit quality. This highly contagious virus infects other plants systematically, posing a constant threat to growers worldwide.
Since the emergence of ToBRFV, Hazera's R&D team has worked tirelessly to find cultivars that can provide effective ToBRFV resistance without sacrificing yield and fruit quality. For several years, Hazera researchers and agronomists have invested endless resources in finding solutions to meet the needs of growers worldwide.
Alejandro Szechtman, Hazera's Marketing Director, said, “Our efforts and this performance; “It includes trials against ToBRFV in many locations globally under different conditions.”

Hazera also announced its roadmap, which will provide ToBRFV resistant solutions worldwide according to market needs, starting with Italy, Greece, Spain, Mexico, Turkey and Israel.
Hazera contributed to a network of internal and external projects on ToBRFV resistance using different approaches during the early stages of Limagrain's manufacturing process. This work made Limagrain the first company to apply for a patent on ToBRFV resistance in tomato in 2017. While first-generation tomato hybrids resistant to Tobrfv are being commercialized, Limagrain discovery programs continue to work hard to find resistances to potentially emerging more aggressive forms of this devastating virus.
Alejandro Szechtman, who said that the R&D work is not over, also stated that they are still investing to achieve higher resistance and expand their portfolio for the benefit of breeders around the world.
