Experts and authorities in the sector emphasize many solutions such as pressurized irrigation systems and greenhouse cultivation to solve this problem.

The Greenhouse Development Program is one of the priority projects of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture, which aims to increase productivity and water consumption management in agriculture.

The development of existing agricultural lands and greenhouses in the country will increase the country's non-oil exports, as well as create new job opportunities; It will also help protect the environment, water and soil resources.

Talking about the country's plans for the modernization and renewal of traditional and old greenhouses in August last year, Darioush Salempour, Director of the Greenhouse Development Program at the Ministry of Agriculture; He stated that their 10-year plan is to renovate more than 5,000 greenhouses across the country.

Darioush Salempour also; He also said that they plan to renew approximately 650 to 700 hectares of traditional and worn greenhouses every year.

The increase in the need for flowers and ornamental plants, seasonal vegetables and summer products has made greenhouse agriculture one of the most profitable sectors of today.

Planting in the controlled area of greenhouses will have an average of 10 times more yield per unit area than planting outdoors, due to favorable environmental conditions.

For example, in the case of cucumbers (cucumbers), each square meter in the greenhouse will have a production capacity of 20 kilograms of cucumber (cucumber), while this figure will be approximately 2 kilograms per square meter in outdoor production.

In addition, water saving in modern greenhouses is actually the biggest advantage of greenhouse cultivation.

Increased control over pests, weeds and diseases is the other advantage of greenhouse cultivation.

Ministry officials draw attention to the fact that the biological control methods used in greenhouse cultivation and the reduced use of pesticides will increase product quality and exports, while protecting the soil and the environment.

Darioush Salempour, Director of the Greenhouse Development Program of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that 3,200 hectares of greenhouses will be established and 686 hectares of greenhouses will be renewed in the country this year, according to the plan and coordination with the provincial agriculture directorates.

In these developments, criteria such as the climatic conditions of the regions, production capacities, infrastructure, manpower, proximity to the target consumer market and export markets, and population will be taken into consideration.

Darioush Salempour underlined that despite the economic conditions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the sanctions against the country and the limited credit facilities, a new greenhouse of 1,510 hectares, equivalent to 50% of the development target, was established; He also said that the greenhouse area of 597 hectares, which corresponds to 86% of the reported plan, was renewed last year.

"This year, we are trying to reach the maximum targets set in the greenhouse sector by working in coordination with the provinces, allocating timely and inexpensive facilities and giving incentives," said Salempour.
