It is also known as "sugar fertilizer" among farmers because its crystal structure is similar to sugar. Sulfur in the form of sulphate is in a position to meet the needs of plants completely. As in all base (used before planting) fertilizers, it increases the plant's phosphorus uptake since its nitrogen is in the form of ammonium (NH4).

Ammonium Sulphate fertilizer is used primarily in rice, sulfur-loving plants such as onion, garlic, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, canola, safflower, poppy, radish and carrot, and in oil plants such as soybean, peanut and sunflower before planting, together with planting, hoeing and irrigation. It is used safely before use. It is applied as a top fertilizer on all fruit trees (except apple, pear and quince) and vegetables, including olives and vineyards. Almost all of the nitrogen fertilizer used in rice farming is met with Ammonium Sulphate fertilizer.
